The idea has caught on in schools and now North is one of those schools.
This leads me to this weeks blog post. In the May issue of National Geographic Magazine, the magazine did a cover story on What is a Genius? Since this is a science class - your usually genius are their - > Einstein and Michelangelo to name a few, but my basic question: Is intelligence the only criteria to be a "genius"? Do you have to have an IQ of 140 to be considered a genius?
Also our 9th graders are doing a genius hour project and researching and presenting their passion. If you could research or really study anything in great details - what would it be and why?
I know as an 18 year old - I wanted to know they why? The existential meaning of life and I remember going to the library at college and instead of studying my physics I would be looking up world religions and different philosophies (it never occurred to me to take a class in those subjects). Today, my "genius hour" is all about exploring the world and meeting new people, I have been researching going from Southern France to the Southern Spain on my bicycle exploring all the towns and people along the way. Hopefully soon I will get there....
