Comment on video and what makes you happy.
We are going to start the second quarter with happiness. The majority of the students feel stressed and overwhelmed their final semester of high school due the fact of college choices, the transition to a new school and just getting older. Well I though it would be a good idea to maybe look at how to be happy. Here is a TED talk from back in 2012 which is a great way to look at what is happiness how to maintain happiness.

I have only been teaching for 10 years but one thing that I can honestly say that is different from when I started to now is the attention levels of all students. It seems there are two classes of students - 1st - the student who can't put their phones down; unforutnately as you can see this will only cause future educational and I believe social issues in the future.
2nd type - the group they rarely put out their phones. These students are the student have more attention thus learn the material. In the past, I had only 1 or 2 students per class who really had a problem with time on task. Today, with cell phone usage for students is more than tripled from my humble observation. This had lead to the decline of students scores overall. Maybe read this --> http://blogs.kqed.org/mindshift/2013/12/age-of-distraction-why-its-crucial-for-students-to-learn-to-focus/?utm_content=socialflow&utm_campaign=nprfacebook&utm_source=npr&utm_medium=facebook Last week, the article was about black holes. In the article, the author referenced a "singularity" which is dealing with the idea of event horizon on a black hole.
Singularity is another term also that has different meaning. Please read this very intersting article from the New York Times. This will give you a different view of the term singularity and maybe a glance into the future of engineering and technology. One of the biggest questions I get each year from Physics' students is that of black holes. We have a class in astronomy, but if you haven't taken it, your ability to understand the concept is very elementary. Here is a link for NASA Goddard Space which does a very nice job explaining black holes. The link --> http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/science/know_l2/black_holes.html
Hopefully black holes aren't such a mystery anymore. Comment on whether or not your knowledge of black holes have increased to the link and reading? |
