I have seen this video and it rang so true. What is discourse and the social setting thing? Watch this video and ask yourself, do you use the proper discourse with the social settings. It seems to me, as I get older, the discourse has been getting blurring. From the way you "act" or "talk" with your friends and how you "act" or "talk" to others.

In my chemistry classes this year, I mentioned the problem with lead in the water in Flint Mi. Last spring, Spring made the national news and is actually still in the news. Their water was found to have high levels of lead in it after switching water sources.
The national media was all over the story but actually, Cleveland has a worse lead problem. Here is the New York Times article on the problem --> www.nytimes.com/2016/03/04/us/lead-paint-contamination-persists-in-many-cities-as-cleanup-falters.html?_r=0 Please read the article. Why do you think Cleveland's lead problem is a national news story? Do you even think it a huge probelm? If yes, how do you think it affects the local community? How do you think we can go about getting the "word out" about this terrible problems? Please comment by Sunday 9/25/16 by 11:59 pm. Here is a picture of Alexander Fleming. He is credited with the discovery in 1928 of penicillin. One of the greatest 20th Century discoveries. Why are were talking about him, you ask. Well this last week in the news, the FDA actually started to ban some chemicals in antibacterial products. You see maybe killing off all the bacteria isn't such a good thing. I personally never was a big user of the antibacterial soap or sanitize; however, two weeks into this cold, maybe I would go back and used these products more. Well here is the story behind antibacterial products. This is a good website to explore and make up your own mind. www.visionlaunch.com/when-was-antibacterial-soap-invented/ Also here is a nice little article of the banning from science news www.sciencenews.org/blog/science-ticker/fda-bans-chemicals-antibacterial-soaps\ Discussion questions: Have your in the past been a user of these types of products? Do you believe it is a good idea to use antibacterial soaps and sanitizes still? What other types of research do you think still needs to be conducted? You have till Sunday 9/11/16 @ 11:59 PM |
