I know I love Chipotle because their food taste great and value is there but Chipotle is socially responsible food retailer because they choose animal and food products that aren't feed antibiotics.
I try the best as possible to buy local food that is grown without the use of pesticides and antibiotics. I personally shop at the Westside market because there are meat stands that market non-antibiotics meats.
Eighty percent of the antibiotics sold in the United States goes to chicken, pigs, cows and other animals that people eat, yet producers of meat and poultry are not required to report how they use the drugs — which ones, on what types of animal, and in what quantities - according to the Times article. That is just startlingly to me - 80% and not sure how there are being used.
The discussion is regarding the overuse of antibiotics thus leading to drug resistant bacteria in humans.
Please listen to the podcast - from last week from the New York Times. You are going to have to let it load and go to the 10 minute mark were the discussion begins. (or listen to the Royal Society as well)

Here is the print article as well http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/04/health/use-of-antibiotics-in-animals-raised-for-food-defies-scrutiny.html?smid=pl-share
Please share your thoughts on how you feel about this trend. If there are being used for growth - that isn't a good use and consumers needs to be informed.
Give me your feedback. The more I know the more shocked I am.
As usually you have a week to post - closes at 9/16/12 at 11:59 pm.
