This is the second blog. If starts in September so if you haven't blogged on the 1st blog - go to the August Archive.
I ran across this article from my digital subscription to Scientific American. It deals with trace chemicals showing up in the umbilical's cord blood. It isn't news that the chemicals within the mother are passed onto the unborn child but these particular types of chemicals (hormone-disrupting chemical Bisphenol A) are chemicals that are found in plastics used in foods and storage containers. The effects of this family chemicals causes endocrine issues.
The articles goes on to discuss other types of chemicals that are found in cord blood as well.
As you read the article, please consider how prevalent these types of chemicals are in your life and lifestyle. Also realize that the decisions that elected officials legislate also impacts the amount of chemicals that you are exposed to. Please read http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=chemicals-umbilical-cord-blood
Please comment on whether or not you believe this can or will impact your life and in which ways. Also think about if you want the government to regulate more or less of these families of chemicals in manufacturing and business - knowing that additional government regulations cost money and possible jobs. Is it worth the costs? Do you want more government regulations?
This blog is due 9/9/12.
