Last year, this came up in my physics class. I found this topic very important and I would like your views on it. Our team names are made up of many great scientist who revolutize our modern world. I believe the pre-industrial revolution period was the turning point in scientific discoveries. The time of Newton, Galileo, Boyles, and so many others. Did you know we are on the advent of another great industrial revolution? Well actually they call it the fourth industrial revolution. We first had the machinery - specially the steam engine, then came the next "industrial revolution" - assembly line (Factories), then we went through the digital (computer) revolution. Today we are on the cusp of a new age. Here is an article from Forbes Magazine from August 2018. Also there is an older TED Talk about this very subject.

I find it interesting that this supposed "Fourth Industrial Revolution" is going to occur, but as the article mentioned, global cooperation is needed to achieve these advances in technology, which I believe is almost an impossibility with the rising social tensions of foreign governments.

Though the prospect of the 4th industrial evolution seems beneficial to big corporations and may result in better products for consumers, the effect that it will have on low skill jobs will most likely be felt for many years after its implementation.

In reality we don't know exactly when this 4th revolution will occur. There could be 2 setbacks or 100 setbacks in developing this technology. Who knows if this will even occur until we are retired. It will however, whenever it comes, change the way that people work. And it will help with production and efficiency. It might also eliminate human errors but then again machines make errors too. What will happen if all the machines break down and they can't be fixed quickly? That would decrease productivity. There are pros and cons to this revolution.

I do believe this fourth industrial revolution is possible to happen but not in a time now where there is very little global unity and so much conflict between nations. But I don’t believe machines can take over every and any task. While there is possibilities of human error there is also that of machines and there are some tasks and jobs that machines just can’t do. For example say a self driving automobile. Others maybe have different opinions but to me I trust myself behind the wheel way more than I would trust a machine. With all the complexities of driving there is so much room for machine error which could put lives at risk

After reading the article and watching the Ted Talk, I have many questions. It is not completely certain when this "4th Industiral Revolution" will take place, and it is still open ended when it comes to what it will do to current jobs. It seems to me that after this 4th industrial revolution, the only jobs that are going to be safe are ones that require creativety, and artificial intelligence and robots cannot think for themselves. The only problem with that is that our schooling doesn't focus on thiss, so as this revolution takes place, is our schooling going to change to, in order to help the new generations adapt to this change and prepare for the new jobs that we will have?

In all honesty, the 4.0 Industrial Revolution could occur at any time, it just depends on when the technology becomes developed. Even though these new machines are threatening the peoples jobs, I do not believe every job will be taken, as some still need a human touch. These machines could increase productivity and result in some positive changes, but the odds of everything going right with these machines is very slim, and could cause harm to society very quickly if released, with the slim possibility of success.

The thought of having a fourth Industrial Revolution is a major possibility, especially with all of the advancements happening all over the world. This revolution would have a different impact, the main focus of this revolution would mainly be challenging the means of being human. Machines and robotics are being improved left and right and having a larger opportunity to become smarter can possibly bring the fourth Industrial Revolution into play.

This reloution will have major impacts on our society in my opinion. The biggest question will be how factories are affected because of it.

See I think that before this sort of robot revolution, there will be a surge in quantum computing which could be seen as the 4th industrial revolution, and then using that technology we can create insanely complex and smart AI systems. Quantum computers can store almost an infinite number of values, and they can transmit that information faster than light speed. You could probably store consciousness inside of one of these computers, because they allow for true randomness. We could literally create humans using computers. In my opinion, that's a much larger leap forward than simply a network of robots.

I think the Industrial Revolution 4.0 will create a lot of new robotic technology in the world. This could cause some factory jobs to go away and new jobs will be needed. People to program the robots will be in demand. Some people might end up losing the their jobs because they might not be able to program robots.I think the robots might make products that are sold better because they will all be identical. I think it will affect everyone's futures when the whole world will have more technology than it does now. Everything will be electronic.

If the 4th industrial revolution were to occur and robots became more prevalent, everyone’s day to day life would be different. Driving could be done by a robot, the need for gas stations would decrease, and jobs would be lost. In my future career, occupational therapy, the human interaction between therapists and their patients may be decreased as they can use robots and other machines to do their therapy and rehabilitation.

In all honesty, if the fourth industrial revolution would occur..human life would change drastically. With the way that our current technology is advancing, I do not doubt some of the predicted occurrences will fail to succeed. Although I do not believe all jobs will be lost, for some machines produced by this revolution could help improve production, in a faster and more efficient way. We may not know exactly when this revolution will occur, we just know that it may change the way we live, in some way.

The fourth industrial revolution is sure to push the boundaries of what our technology is able to do. However, I fear that it will only increase the global tensions. Wealthy, advanced countries like America will surely be enjoying the new technolgies while undeveloped countries in Africa and the Middle East haven't even felt the benefits from the first industrial revolution. The technology will be developed by selfish big-name companies that are already rolling in cash, too greedy to use that money for anything but making more. With consumers like us drooling over their new products, the big companies will gain complete control over the world and will start a new kind of world war where only one company comes out on top, ruling absolutely everything. But, yeah, AI is pretty cool.

This new industrial revolution sounds amazing, but the odds of it happening soon are low. The way AI is right now is not perfect but is constantly evolving. Many people have no adapted to all of the new technology coming out yearly, and I feel that this is a big set back for industry. Companies could have a hard time adopting robots to do specialized tasks. It may also be hard for engineers to create a robot to do such a specialized task. There is a lot of technology out today that makes lives a lot easier, and it can only get better, but like the article said it will need people to cooperate with this new technology. Not everyone will be on board straight away, and this will make it hard for the fourth industrial revolution to happen.

If the 4th industrial revolution would occur our lives would be completely different. Everything would be automated and many jobs would be lost because a computer can do it. Jobs that we think can't be done by computers eventually will be done by computers. In some cases technology is very helpful and in some cases it is not. We just need to find out in which cases of will not be beneficial.

I found it rather bold of the speakers to say with certainty that we are on the cusp of another industrial revolution. Commonly, eras are not given labels until there is time to reflect back on them and decide what name would best fit it. In any case, I feel it's almost frightening to hear about the future as being so artificial. As a consumer, knowing that some products may have hardly had any human-interaction is unsettling. However, since humans are prone to error, having products inspected by robots/computers may not be such a bad exchange. As for those who rely on relatively low-skill jobs, such as quality control, this talk of another industrial revolution is probably terrifying. I foresee the need for higher education being drastically increased, as most jobs will involve developing these extremely advanced machines. Of course this would also lead to an increase in competition among the workforce if more and more people are becoming highly skilled and educated.

The fourth industrial revolution could and will revolutionize the world in so many ways. It will be able to help so many company’s with how they manufacture items. Tho The revolution will also mean a loss of jobs for people to machines and computers. The jobs that are now more in demand will be for programming and engineering, jobs that require a high skill set. I find this as an opportunity, I hope to become an engineer after college and the fourth industrial revolution might help me in some way.

I believe that the new era of technology will have a huge impact on society. Jobs will begin to shift towards more engineering based fields, and less towards basic jobs that a machine can do. I feel as if the work force will become even more competitive since everyone will have the same areas of work. The fourth revolution will effect us greatly, and push humans to change.

When the 4th industrial revolution happens, I believe that it will change everything from working, to commuting, person to person jobs, and buying anything. Robots or machines could start taking over jobs just like they have started to. What would be the point of paying someone annually for something that a software program or a machine could do for a one time fee. With machines, there aren't any human errors either. I think this new technology is just starting to become prevalent and will become more prevalent as time passes.

There is a big possibility that there can be a fourth industrial revolution. Everyday, technology is advancing, therefore, our worlds will most likely change due to machines and robots. With this possibility, numerous jobs will be impacted poorly due to the advanced technology.

The idea of the fourth industrial revolution is fascinating yet intimidating. The revolution focuses on the development of AI into an intelligent being. In comparison to other industrial revolutions, this one will not just increase productivity in a linear progression, it will increase productivity in an exponential progression. The overall goal of the revolution is to develop AI to such a sense of intelligence that it can feel and basically be a super human. That is a disgustingly freaky concept because if AI is just a super human, whats going to stop them from enslaving us for their own devices? Not only that, but intelligent AI will create less jobs because AI will be able to replace many human jobs. The economic benefits are promised to be very good according to this article, for the top percent of the economy. However, the average Joe will suffer tremendously because there will be no job for the average Joe to have. The productivity and quality of life promised by the advancement of AI is surreal, but the loss of humanity is a growing concern.

I think the thought of the new industrial revolution or the 4th industrial revolution is just crazy. But the way technology is advancing i believe it is happening. This generation is mostly focused on technology and the way its advancing will change many peoples lives.

The fourth industrialization will have a great impact on the lives of mine and so many others. It will remove low skill jobs, and instead replace them with jobs that specialize in maintaining the efficiency set by the standards of production.

I think if the 4th industrial revolution were to happen humans would never be the same, many workers would lose their jobs but many would get new ones programming these new machines. It’s only going to get more advanced from here on out. AI is the future and it will soon be able to function like us and in all honesty probably better than us humans. If programmed correctly robots do not make errors. This is the future of the our world.

I believe the fourth industrial revolution is already upon us. With companies already trying to automate processes with robots or even with fast food places trying out kiosks instead of having employees only. Places like Amazon now have robot movers, who move massive amounts of product in a very precise way to make them more efficient. Robots and the fourth revolution are here, the early stages but it has arrived

The fourth industrial revolution will have a profound impact on our generation's future. There will be both positive and negative effects that will shape our daily lives. For example, a positive change, as with every industrial revolution, is increased productivity and technological advancements. The main one being the integration of artificial intelligence into our lives through smart assistance. A negative effect will be the elimination of lower skill jobs which will cause the gap between the rich (who benefit off the revolution) and the poor (who are trampled by it) to increase. Also, the chance that AI surpasses humanity or integrates into it is also quite disturbing. Overall, the fourth industrial revolution will be a mixed bag of positive and negative effects.
