Antibiotics are drugs that are used to treat bacteria infections. Most bacteria infections are curable because of the antibiotics.
Today, however, there is a small problem with antibiotics; some infections are becoming resistant. 20,000 US death yearly due to resistant from antibiotics. So far only one person in the US has contracted Ebola but 2 millions people are getting sick in the US from resistance to antibiotics.
70% of all antibiotics are used on animals; 30 millions pounds per year. Amazing amounts. Most American (including myself) eat meat and the Frontline looked at how animals might pass on their antibiotics are passed down.
One of my favorite look at this is from a "Meatrix" --> Take a look
So what is being done with the overuse of antibiotics. Here is a nice article from PBS and Frontline discussing this issue -- > http://ww.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/health-science-technology/trouble-with-antibiotics/what-is-the-fda-doing-about-the-problem/
If you have an extra hour to spare here is the complete program -- > http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/trouble-with-antibiotics/
So what can we do as a society to help with this problem? Any ideas or suggestions?
